Professional Development Workshops

We look forward to supporting and empowering your team in the acquisition of training goals, and most importantly, seeing the training topics translate to their classroom practices. Our interactive professional development (PD) workshops include pre-and-post growth measures, engaging topics, role-plays, classroom resources, and team-building exercises. Aligning with our values, all PD workshops are individualized to the site and classroom needs. This page outlines the PD workshops topics, descriptions, and outcomes.

  • Direct Instruction Teaching Methodologies and Applications in the Classroom

Description: Teaching in a style that is individualized and engaging is no easy job for teachers and Tier 1 interventionist. The inclusion of direct instruction teaching methodology and effective classroom management interventions have proven to increase learning outcomes, decrease disruptive behaviors, and increase adaptive behaviors for students in public schools.

Outcomes: As a result of this PD session, attendees will be able to:

 Demonstrate the differences between formal and informal direct instruction teaching methods

 Demonstrate group-based instruction and feedback procedures to students

  • Classroom Management: Maximizing All Learning Opportunities & Increasing Engagement

Description: When multiple students in one classroom display disruptive behaviors, that can impact the learning opportunities, classroom culture, and overall morale. One approach that has proven to be effective for all students is the use of robust Tier 1 Interventions. This includes providing clear instructions, signaling transitions, using choral responding and active student responding interventions, and providing positive feedback.

Outcomes: As a result of this PD session, attendees will be able to:

 Implement choral responding and active student interventions

 Use class-wide feedback systems and group contingencies to promote student engagement

  • A Function-Based and Inclusive Approach to Supporting Students that Engage in Challenging Behaviors

Description: Students that display severe behaviors have an increased risk of limited learning opportunities, shorten school days, and peer social stigmas. When attempting to support students that engage in challenging behaviors, it is important to identify the ‘why’ (or the function) behind challenging behaviors to assess what the student is trying to communicate and to develop interventions to help promote independence.

Outcomes: As a result of this PD session, attendees will be able to:

 Identify the antecedents (triggers) to challenging behaviors

 Embed intentional tools in the classroom to help students clearly communicate their wants and needs

  • The Role of School-Based Behavior Analysts Providing Services in Public Schools

Description: Navigating service provision is no easy job, especially for Behavior Analysts working in public schools. There are many changing dynamics when analyzing the effectiveness of a classroom management intervention or working with a student that engages in challenging behaviors. One important consideration is the use of equitable and consistent teaching practices across all students in the classroom. By using a more molecular approach to data collection, school-based Behavior Analysts may be able to make positive impacts in the education system.

Outcomes: As a result of this PD session, attendees will be able to:

 Identify data collection methods to measure teacher-student interactions

 Explain how bias-based behavior impacts students’ experience in school

  • Importance of Effective Communication and its Impact on the Classroom Environment

Description: Clear and explicit communication is critical for every level in the classroom. For students, clear communication prepares students for the next activity and increases positive teacher-student relationships. For classroom teams, clear communication identifies expectations for high priority times. Throughout the entire classroom, clear communication outlines expectations for students and established classroom norms. (2hr)

Outcomes: As a result of this PD session, attendees will be able to:

 Use needs-based communication to clarify classroom expectations

 Discuss the impact of communication on student behavior in schools

  • Potty Training Children using Evidence-Based Interventions

Description: Independent toileting skills provide multiple benefits (e.g., access to a variety of settings, increase in sanitation and comfort, and confidence). Research on toilet training related to daytime incontinence has been conducted with typically developing children and children with developmental disabilities. Toilet training is a critical skill for students to master upon entering primary education settings and has lifetime impacts.

Outcomes: As a result of this PD session, attendees will be able to:

 Identify the key pre-requisite skills to identify when a student is ready for toilet training

 Explain toilet training best intervention practices for all students

  • What is Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and How Can We Support Individuals that Require Different Levels of Support?

Description: Those individuals who experience Autism Spectrum Disorder may require additional support to be fully engaged at your setting or organization. It is important for all providers to identify strategies to support individuals that may have communication deficits or restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviors. (1hr)

Outcomes: As a result of this PD session, attendees will be able to:

 Explain characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder

 Identify setting accommodations to prove high-quality services
